Blue Shield of California rate increase.
Wow, with a birthday added to the rate increase my health insurance premium is almost as much as my car payment. This is crazy.
Blue Shield of California is telling us that health care costs are rapidly rising and that's a big part of the premium increase. The theory is that the more people who have health insurance and pay premiums, the lower the individual cost.
Here's what's being reported by Blue Shield. Hospital cost 19.5% last year.
Physician charges rose 17.4%.
Drug prices rose 17.5%.
Because of the bad economy fewer people can afford their health insurance so those of us who can still pay premiums are paying more.
I don't think these premiums can continue to rise. The average individual or family can't make the choice of mortgage, food or health insurance.
Is a collapse of the health insurance industry or medical industry in our future?
I also think the economy is keeping a lot of people from going to see a doctor or get follow up care because they simply can't afford it. This is shameful.
