Healdsburg California's Health Insurance
Is Healdsburg another Bell? We've been reading about the salaries and benefits of the city employees in Bell California and how outrageously high they are. It's happening in Healdsburg as well.
The Press Democrat reported yesterday that the City Manager of Healdsburg was dropping the health insurance provided by the city to go onto her husbands health insurance. He's a police officer in a near by town. It seems that if you are employed by the city of Healdsburg they pay for your health insurance and all your family members. This is nuts. Very few private employers pay for dependent health insurance coverage. It's too expensive. But, since there is no profit motive for a municipality we're finding that salaries and benefits far exceed any private companies compensation.
Who's making these decisions? Are city councils mearly rubber stamps? It's discouraging to read about how city's and county's are wasting tax dollars. They all complain about not having funds for police and firefighters but look at the waste and excessive compensation.
I think it is time people demand audits of city expenditures and that action be taken to get they cities and counties in line with the current economic reality.
