California Health Insurance and Medications
The New York Times reported today that a big reason health care costs are rising is because people are not taking their medications. They state that one third to one half of all patients do not take medication as prescribed and a quarter never fill their prescriptions at all. Not taking medication leads to more serious problems down the road and contributes more than $100 billion annually to health care costs annually.
All the health insurance plans we represent in California offer a drug benefit. The trend lately, from both Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California is to offer plans with a full drug benefit and cheaper plans that offer generic drug coverage only.
You can see the difference in costs of these plans at our website, www.GreenInsuranceServices.com. We'll send you health insurance quotes that clearly show the difference in cost of plans that offer both levels of drug benefit. I've found the least expensive prescription drugs are offered at Wal Mart Pharmacy and Costco Pharmacy. You don't have to be a member of Costco to have your prescriptions filled at their pharmacies.
If you choose to purchase a California Health Insurance plan with a generic drug only benefit, be sure to tell your doctor your plan only covers generic drugs.
